UEFA investigates Anthony Taylor’s officiating in Europa League final

Europa League

UEFA has reportedly opened investigations into the decisions made by referee Anthony Taylor during the Europa League final on May 31.

The match between Sevilla and AS Roma was marred by contentious decisions. Sevilla eventually won after a penalty shootout.

Roma’s manager Jose Mourinho was furious during and after the game. He did not hesitate to make his thoughts clear during the post-match conference.

Mourinho was filmed hurling insults at the English referee in the parking lot. This altercation resulted in the Portuguese manager being charged as reported by Mirror football.

He faces a number of charges including the use of abusive language. If found guilty he faces a ban or hefty fine or both for the meltdown after his team’s loss.

Referee Anthony Taylor was also confronted by Roma fans a day after the final at a Budapest airport.

It seems his troubles had just begun because UEFA is now looking into his conduct.

Taylor issued 14 yellow cards and overturned a penalty. The game came to a halt from time to time with both sides seemingly dissatisfied with decisions made by the referee.
