Trans-Nzoia county is the second with its consumption of 240,097 bags and Nakuru county is third with 213,242 bags. The government has so far sold fertilizer worth Ksh10.7 billion with planting fertilizer having the largest percentage.
Farmers have been encouraged by KNTC to use the fertilizer since there are 730,000 more bags in the stores.
The subsidized fertilizer program was rolled out in order to boost agriculture in the country and increase food production. Farmers have to digitally register themselves at any National Cereals and Produce center or the chief’s office for them to access the subsidized fertilizer.

Registration is done in order to hold the distribution Board accountable and to promote efficiency. With the current subsidy, farmers pay Ksh3,500 for a 50kg of fertilizer which they would have otherwise paid Ksh6,000.
