Abel Mutua aka Mkurungezi and Phil are set to release a new series titled Mpakani, a film that is set to focus on the daily life of a soldier in Kenya.
Mpakani is a 10-episode series featuring a Special Intervention Unit (SIU) of the administration police. The unit is dispatched to the frontline in Wajii, (a fictitious town) to deal with the threat posed by the notorious Burhaan, who is planning a major terrorist attack in Nairobi.
Mpakani looks at the inner workings of the 6 – member unit, which is stationed in a regular RBPU base at the Kenya/Somalia border, as well as the personal challenges of the diverse members beyond their professional world.

The two former Tahidi high actors, have been working together and are already making great films in the industry including the popular Click Click Bang film, which won two accolades at the 2023 African Magic Viewer Choice award by bagging the best East African movies and best indigenous language (Swahili).

PhilIt production will be in charge of the Mpakani film distribution. Phil in an interview also appreciated the effort of online media, stating that they are a part of the growth in consumption of Kenyan content.
Mkurungenzi also gave his thought about the film industry’s growth in Kenya, stating that the generation before did next to nothing in cinema. He went ahead to explain that production is now working and are feeding Kenyans with amazing films.
