Abel Mutua Bags Six Awards in the Kalasha Awards Ceremony

Abel Mutua and his production team Phillt, won six awards out of the twelve, as Philip Karanja his business partner, and himself won best viewer’s choice awards through click click bang.

Others who carried awards home included, musician and actress Sanaipei Tande who won the best lead actress for the role she played in the show ‘Kina’, as the best Lead actor went to Joe Kinyua for the role he played in ‘Njoro wa uber’.

Timothy Owase the CEO of the Kenya Film Commission acknowledges that Kenyan content is getting more global recognition.

He congratulated the actors and actresses for their industrious nature and hard work encouraging them to keep Kenya in the face of the world.

“The submissions we received this year have shown how much commitment and effort industry players are putting to ensure it remains steadfast. Interestingly, the number of submitted films for the 12th Edition of Kalasha Awards went up to 217 compared to 149 that were submitted in 2021. The additional 68 films show the hard work and extra effort the industry has put in with regards to content creation.” Timothy Owase said.

In attendance was the sports cabinet secretary Ababu Namwamba, who stated that his goal is to promote authentic and cultural values both local and international through film.

He also added that the film unites people across Kenya by expressing their political, economic, and cultural ethics of the Kenyan community through films

“Film expresses the social, political, economic, and cultural ethos of the society in which it is produced. Even as we plan to restructure the film industry, we need to ask ourselves how much revenue is the industry generating, how much investment does it attract, and are we attracting and developing the next generation of passionate, visionary, skilled storytellers and producers?” Ababu noted.

 Kibaara Kaugi a representative of the Kenya Film Commission board (KFCB)mentioned that Kenyan film is getting international recognition such as the Oscars hence the commission has established the Kenya Oscars selection committee as per the Oscars guidelines.

The other household names that were in attendance were Charlene Ruto, Edwin Sifuna and Miss Tariro
