6 Things that Determine Your Social Status

Since forever, there have been ways to differentiate between the poor and the rich. There have also been ways for the rich to identify levels of wealth amongst themselves. In this day and age, you still can tell where someone is in the social hierarchy based on material things that they possess that are attached or perceived to be associated with certain persons.

The Bag

This is most especially for women,  the type of bag you carry around will tell the world where you rank in the social hierarchy. Women with designer bags are perceived to have more money than the average unknown handbags. Most specifically, women with the Birkin or Kelly, two of the most expensive and hard-to-bet bags in the world are seen with mostly celebrities and the obviously wealthy women. Those who wear knock-off designer bags, are disgusting and should honestly seek therapy for trying so hard but looking even lower in the social hierarchy.

Cars

Well besides the obvious luxury cars like sports cars and the Rolce Roys, there are other cars one can own that create the impression of high-status symbols. Cars also reflect the personality of an owner. The Mercedes Benz, Porsche and Range Rover are some of the cars that are perceived to be for the rich, basically the German, UK and sometimes American cars. The cars from Asia perceive you are a middle class who dresses probably struggles to service his car.

Phone

Regardless of how much money you spent on your phone, if it is not Samsung or iPhone, then you are still perceived as low on the social hierarchy. And if indeed you are rich and have another phone besides the two, then you have really bad taste. Samsung is the phone to use if you do not grasp the how-to of an iPhone. While the iPhone is at the top of the hierarchy.

Shoes

Coco Chanel said a woman with good shoes is never ugly. Goes both ways really. Subconsciously, men tend to look at another man’s shoes first thing before they judge the level of respect to give him.

Residence

Investing in where you love especially as a family man or woman speaks a lot about who you are and what you like. In Nairobi, you cannot do morning runs in all neighbourhoods, you’d be mugged and made fun of in others while in others you will meet with others who care for their body and network.

Your choice of accessories is as important as the outfit you’d wear. Accessories finish up a look. Choosing materials and colour that are suitable will say a lot. Leather tan belts, pearl earrings and an iWatch represent luxury.
