Orange Democratic Party exchanged calls ahead of the special sitting suggesting Raila’s involvement in Oduol’s planned ouster. Oduol is the Deputy Governor of Siaya County and has been fighting with James Orengo, the county governor.
ODM warrant and ask the deputy governor to resign from office at a food distribution exercise held in Alego Usonga. Raila was seen at the food distribution exercise visiting the flood victims. In attendance was Opiyo Wadanyi, National Assembly Minority Leader and Busia’s governor, Paul Otuoma who offered to mediate between the two. Alongside this, the MCAs plan to impeach him by filing a motion to the county assembly.
“When you’re neighbour’s house is on fire, you help extinguish it. That’s why I have offered to sit the two down and talk,” Otuoma said during the relief exercise.
A few activists filed a motion to the high court on allegations of Orengo’s corrupt nature and his misappropriation of the executive. These allegations were however dismissed by the county assembly. After their dismissal, Orengo and Raila had a meeting last week on Friday at the county liaison offices in Nairobi.
Raila Odinga, is said to have shown his displeasure with all the bad reputation being created by the feud. There has been bad press on ODM counties because of the fallout between the two. With this being his home town, it has warranted his silent but firm involvement.
Oduol’s planned ouster at the special sitting
On Monday, the County Assembly plans to have another special sitting to table the matter. In this meeting, East Asembo’s MCA Gordon Onguru, plans to officially file the motion for the impeachment of the deputy governor. The MCAs have been forced to cut short their recess to deal with the issue and ensure progress in the county. Ward representatives had also planned on going to Mombasa for a work tour but have had to suspend it and deal with the issue at hand.
”This is a game I know too well, but I am focusing on developing Siaya.” Orengo remarked.
Amid all the wrangles between the governor and deputy governor, Siaya County remains at a standstill.
