Robert Lewandowski scored twice, the Poland striker opened the scoring with a scuffed finish in the 20th minute and Spanish international Ansu Fati added the second eight minutes into the second half.

Gavi assisted Lewandowski to score the third and Ferran Torres netted in the 70th minute.

It was Elche’s first match under Sebastian Beccacece their fourth permanent manager of the season. However, Elche’s solid first-half showing lost their way after the break and remain 14 points from safety at the foot of the table.

The La Liga’s top scorer, Lewandowski put Barcelona ahead as Jordi Alba’s free-kick was headed down to him by Ronald Araujo, and the Poland striker looped into the far corner.

Elche’s best chance came when Jose Angel Carmona was put clean through only to feel his hamstring go as he burst clear and lose his footing.

Ansu fati takes it for his first league goal since October he was able to run from inside his half and drill the ball into the bottom corner as the Elche defenders backed off.

Lewandowski tallied up to 17 goals in 2022/23 making it three on 66 minutes, before the game was all but put to bed when Torres completed the scoring with a curling effort from the edge of the box.

Another sensational victory for Xavi’s side sees them extend their lead at the top of La Liga to 15 points for the time being.

With no more European football to clog up the schedule, it should be smooth sailing toward the title from here.

Up next for Barcelona is their crucial Copa del Rey semifinal at home to Los Blancos in midweek with Elche’s precarious survival battle taking them to Osasuna next weekend.

Real Madrid has the chance to narrow the gap to 12 points again when they host Real Valladolid on Sunday.
