A win for Kenya as Evans, Hellen dominate Boston marathon, Kipchoge finishes 6th

Evans Chebet and Hellen Obiri dominated the men’s and women’s race respectively, scooping sweet victory for Kenya at the Boston marathon.

Evans, who was the defending champion reclaimed his title after winning the Boston Marathon 2023 in a time of 2:05:54, surpassing Eliud Kipchoge who emerged in sixth position. Hellen Obiri, Kenya’s female top silver medalist clinched the women’s title after finishing in 2:21:38.

Eliud Kipchoge, Kenya’s G.O.A.T (Greatest Of All Time) marathoner emerged sixth in the men’s marathon. Eliud had earlier anticipated a win, one of the many to go in his books. He attributed his performance to the fact that the marathon was quite tough for him.

“…Today was a tough day for me. I pushed myself as hard as I could, but sometimes, we must accept that today wasn’t the day to push the barrier to a greater height.” Kipchoge said.

Regardless, in the spirit of Kenyan victory, the 38-year-old congratulated all the winners, while thanking his fans for their undying support. He went further to positively anticipate a much better performance next time.

“In sports you win and you lose and there is always tomorrow to set a new challenge, [I’m] excited for what’s ahead,” Kipchoge added.

The unexpected loss of Eliud in Boston’s marathon left many Kenyans shocked and somewhat disappointed. However, despite the unexpected turn of events, the Kenyan star still shone with vigor after a stellar performance from our very own.

Eliud Kipchoge in his career has managed to bag a whopping four gold medals out of six major marathons while setting next to unattainable world records. His fluidity has been praised globally, to an extent of attaining him a ‘king of marathons’ title.

What would be considered his greatest achievement was when he broke the two-hour time record in Vienna park during a special course, after finishing in a clean 1:59.

This goes to show that even the best players in a game can have bad days.
