World Rugby Sevens Series: Kenya Sevens in Danger Of Relegation

Despite finishing 10th at Canada Sevens on Sunday, Kenya Sevens are now 13th in the 2022/2023 World Rugby Sevens Series and face a relegation battle.

Shujaa collected seven points from Vancouver making it 29 points after losing to Cape Town Sevens champions Samoa 35-17 trailing 28-0 at the break.

Paul Scanlan, Neueli Leitufia, Faafoi Falaniko, Leitufia, Scanlan, Daniel Taabu and Brian Tanga all landed a brace.

Avoiding the relegation play-offs, Kenya now must emerge victorious in the next three legs of the series in Hong Kong, Singapore and Toulouse.

Argéntina Sevens Pumas who lifted the Hamilton Sevens champions is the only team in the Series to win two legs.

 The Hong Kong Sevens champions Australia went home with bronze, after defeating Dubai Sevens silver medalists Ireland 20-5 in the play-off for third place.

 The fifth-place final battle was between New Zealand and the United States of America, New Zealand winners in Sydney and Los Angeles carried the day with a 50-7 win.

New Zealand tops the table with 120 points after collecting 13 points from Canada, Argentina Sevens Pumas are second with 108 points after collecting 22 points in Canada, while France and Fiji sit in the Third and fourth position with a tally of 95 and 94 points respectively.

Kenya’s qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics also looks tight with South Africa have dropped in the standings from third place to seventh place with 89 points after collecting three points in Canada, their worst-ever outing in years.

The Challenger Series will continue to provide exciting fixtures for teams to qualify for the World Rugby Sevens Series.

The top four teams after the final leg of the Series in London will find the top four teams automatically qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
