Harambee Stars Head Coach Engin Firat has announced he is already done with sending invitations to players in foreign leagues ahead of the March 25 and 28 fixtures
Harambee Stars have two fixtures scheduled in March. This marks a return to international football for the Kenya Football National team since the ban imposed by FIFA in February 2022.
Following the FKF’s suspension by FIFA last year due to suspicions of corruption, local authorities suspended the governing body citing Government/ third-party interference.
In November, Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba the federation will be reinstated, but former FKF President Nick Mwendwa, who is accused of corruption, was advised not to rejoin the FKF until the matter was settled. His case was adjourned for the fifth time, to late March.
Head Coach Firat in his latest interview has pointed out that 5 players plying their trade internationally are on his radar but in the forthcoming fixtures against Burundi, only two would feature,
“In the next few days, we will have finished the process and released the names
“I have some surprise call-ups this time around. In total and for the long term, I am looking to work with five foreign-based players who have never featured for the country in any assignment,
“Only two of them will be ready for the match against Burundi. One we are sorting out his passport while another has to renew his…We have previously invited them, as required by FIFA regulations, at least 14 days in advance. For the local players, we continue to assess those we have because we want to examine as many as possible.”
