Manchester City beat Bristol City 3-0 as Leicester City were knocked out of the FA Cup by Championship side Blackburn Rovers
Phil Foden scored a brace for Manchester City before Kevin De Bruyne sealed the win with a trademark long-range shot. Despite stiff competition from Mahrez and Grealish for a place in the starting lineup, the midfielder is in form having scored against Bournemouth on Saturday in the Premier League.
Pep Guardiola said this about the midfielder, “The impact of Phil has been flabbergasting, awesome. [He has been] getting better, but in your career, you always have ups and downs. He struggled with his ankle a little bit but doesn’t complain and has problems. It’s not about the goals but about how aggressive he is. Before he didn’t have the confidence to do it but today he’s done it again. His work ethic, the way he trains, is 100%.”
Bristol City came into the game on the back of a 12-game unbeaten run and gave a spirited performance against the Cityzens despite going down in just seven minutes.
Leicester City lose at home to Blackburn Rovers
Premier League side Leicester City were beaten 2-1 at the King Power Stadium by fourth-placed Championship side Blackburn Rovers. Leicester’s poor run of form with 2 wins in their last 9 Premier League games showed against a Championship team.
Tyrhys Dolan and Sammie Szmodics seized on mistakes at the back to give Blackburn the lead in the 33rd and 52nd minute respectively. Kelehi Iheanacho came off the bench in the 58th minute and scored in less than 10 minutes on the pitch to give Leicester the consolation goal with his 18th career goal for the Foxes in the FA Cup.
