Manchester United and Manchester City will be feeling optimistic about their title charge following positive results in the only Sunday Premier League fixtures. United won 2-0 against Leeds at Elland Road, whereas the Cityzens comfortably beat Aston Villa 3-1 at the Etihad.

Since the return of the Premier League, no player has scored more goals in Europe’s Top Five Leagues than Manchester United striker Marcus Rahsford. The striker has 13 goals in 15 matches and is showing no signs of slowing down.

Rashford scored in the 80th minute, from a pin-point header. Something familiar about this scary trend, as the forward completes his goal with his trademark celebration.

Leeds could feel hard done by, but De Gea was in good form in United’s goal and substitute Alejandro Garnacho made the most of the chance that came his way in the 85th minute. Garnacho beat the Leeds defense before beating Meslier at the near post. 2-0 United.

Cityzens Haunt Gunners

Manchester City played their Aston Villa soon after full-time in United’s game. They were well aware of all the possibilities on the Premier League table come Monday and gave a convincing display, characteristic of their manager Pep Guardiola, using the current dark cloud over the club to fuel the needed result.

City dominated their game and took the lead in just four minutes. Rodri scored from Riyad Mahrez’s corner. Emiliano Martinez was fantastic following the early conceded goal and kept out both Grealish and Gundogan before the latter scored from a tap-in goal, created by Erling Haaland in the 39th minute. On the stroke of half-time, Riyad Mahrez converted a penalty after a foul on Grealish.

Haaland was taken off at halftime, as manager Pep Guardiola was cautious about the striker’s thigh discomfort. Julian Alvarez came on in his place. In the 61st minute, Ollie Watkins scored from a through ball by Douglas Luiz.

When Villa return to action next Saturday, they play the Gunners at Villa Park. Arsenal’s next game is against Manchester City, on Wednesday.
