We have grown up knowing that computer programming is only taught in international schools, not public or community schools.
Since the inception of Code with Kids in 2017, all of that has been set aside for the children of Kibera.
Code With Kids is a community-focused organization dedicated to providing low-income children and young adults with affordable and accessible STEM education.

Its mission is to empower the next generation of innovators by providing them with the tools and resources they need to excel in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
Renice Owino, the founder of Code With Kids and a computer programmer, stated that she was not interested in pursuing a career in computer programming until her father advised her to do so.
While leaving with her aunt in Kibera she noticed there are no tech spaces for kids to go and explore
While leaving with her aunt in Kibera, she noticed that there are no tech spaces for kids to explore, which inspired her to help children learn about technology.
“It’s not only about empowering them in tech, we are also trying to see how their grades increase in school. Motivating the students to keep up with their school grades the same way they are keeping up with their technology skills,” she said.

She stated that Covid-19 was the most difficult because she had to visit the students in their homes for one-on-one sessions.
She added, “Every child deserves the opportunity to learn and grow through STEM, regardless of their background or financial circumstances. That’s why we offer our programs at an affordable fee and provide financial assistance to those who may not be able to afford the sessions.”
“Our target audience is children and young adults between the ages of 6 and 18 who are interested in using STEM to improve their lives and communities. We work closely with local schools and community organizations to ensure that our programs are accessible to as many young people as possible.”
“In addition to our regular STEM sessions, we also host special events and workshops, such as science fairs and hackathons, to give our participants the opportunity to showcase their skills and collaborate with their peers. We are committed to making a positive impact in our community and empowering the next generation of STEM leaders.”
Last year, Code With Kids hosted Code Day Event, which was attended by 140 students, including 20 college students, 37 high school students, and 83 primary school students.
