James Tarkowski stunned the Arsenal faithful scoring the only goal in a tight Premier League fixture, in Sean Dyche’s first game as Everton Manager.

The former Burnley Manager was keen to make a good start at Goodison Park despite a frustrating January transfer period. The Toffees failed to sign Andre Ayew, Kamaldeen Sulemana, and Ben Johnson on deadline day.

Arsenal, the league leaders, boosted their squad with Jorginho who made a cross-town switch to the Gunnerson transfer deadline day. Heading into the fixture, Everton had a pretty good record against the Gunners. The Toffees have now won four of their last five Premier League encounters with Arsenal.

Sean Dyche sparked conversation in the media following his move to put the Everton players on the dreaded bleep test during training. In his words, he insisted it is not about his side’s endurance, but a ‘measure’ of what his players are made of.

In the Saturday fixture, Everton made their intent early on, with missed chances from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Onana seeing Arsenal and Everton head into the break level. Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah also missed a clear-cut chance through on goal after not getting a significant touch on the ball as it went out of play on the other side of the post.

In the 39th minute, Bukayo Saka comes close to opening the scores at Goodison Park. His sublime volley is cleared off the line by Everton’s Coady as they hold off Arsenal. 0-0 at the break.

In the second half, Arsenal make two changes early on. Trossard and Jorginho, who is making his Gunners debut, replace Martinelli and Partey.

A minute after the change, Iwobi wins a corner and Tarkowski converts to stun Arsenal.

Calvert-Lewin is then replaced by Maupay as the manager shits his attention to holding off Arsenal and killing the game.

Everton get comfortable over the remainder of the game and avoid late scares to win 1-0.
