Rashford scored the second goal with an easy finish after a move that featured some excellent short passage of play as United looked assured of a win as Palace struggled to generate chances.

Casemiro was set off in the 70th minute and will be available in the Carabao Cup Final against Newcastle. According to Premier League rules, players who receive a straight red card for violent behaviour are suspended for the next three contests.

In the 76th minute, Palace reduced the deficit through a deft Jeffrey Schlupp volley.

At full-time United players, Bruno Fernandes and Fred dropped to their knees following a hard-fought win. Marcus Rashford had barely anything left in the tank.

The visitors pushed forward in an attempt to get a point at Old Trafford, but United coach Erik ten Hag brought on Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof to hold on to victory.
