Shakira’s new song has already earned her $512,000 (£419,150) from YouTube, $500,000 (£409,330) from Amazon, $360,000 (£294,720) from Spotify, and $1.2 million (£980,000) from Apple, according to Marca.

These figures will only rise in the future.

In tune, Shakira sings: “I’m worth two 22’s. You traded a Ferrari for a Twingo. You traded a Rolex for a Casio… A lot of gyms, but work your brain a little bit too.”

Those lyrics are directed at Pique, as he has responded to them by using the King’s League. Pique recently established a new football competition, which is popular among social media users and promoted by content creators.

The former Manchester United defender arrived at a Kings League event in a Twingo car and has signed a Casio sponsorship deal. He announced the latter partnership alongside Sergio Aguero during a live stream of the King’s League.

“We have an agreement with Casio,” Pique explained. “I’m serious,” Pique said after much laughter, “we have reached an agreement with Casio for the Kings [League], yes, because we have many countdowns… this watch is for life, I’m telling you!”

While Aguero chanted “Casio, Casio,” Pique handed out free Casio watches to his guests. The Manchester City legend then inquired about Shakira’s song, prompting more laughter.

Pique’s reaction to Shakira’s lyrics made headlines and amused fans on social media, but it also generated a lot of buzz for Shakira’s new song. Other lyrics by the singer include:

“No hard feelings, babe. I wish you good luck with my so-called replacement. I don’t know what happened; you’re acting so weird I don’t even recognize you.”

During an interview with Elle last October, Shakira described the break-up as “incredibly difficult” for her and the ex-two couple’s children. She also insisted that her music career had been put on hold to help Pique succeed at Barcelona. He retired in November of last year.
