United Manager Erik Ten Haag had a successful first experience in the FA Cup with United facing Everton on Friday night. The Red Devils manager summarised the fixture, “It was really competitive, both teams challenged each other, it was a good tempo. I think the audience is the big winner of this cup game. It was exciting to watch. A lot of tempo, a lot of opportunities for both sides and I am happy that we won this game, I think it was also justified. I think their (Everton’s) performance was really good. They played really brave, on the front foot, go forward, and that is why I think the audience got the perfect game. It was a good show. It was entertaining. And once again we are happy we won, but I think the performance from Everton was good as well.”

Man of the Match, Marcus Rashford, assisted twice and scored in his fifth consecutive Manchester United fixture. He has now scored in all of United’s five fixtures since the World Cup.

Antony put United ahead in just 4 minutes, sliding to apply the finish from a low cross by Marcus Rashford. Everton showed resilience on the night and put on a show that earned them applause from their traveling fans despite the loss.

A David De Gea howler at the back, as the ball squeezed through his legs, and onto the path of Conor Coady. 1-1, in the 14th minute, game on!

The first half ended in a draw, with Everton manager Frank Lampard the happier of the two managers.

The second half began in an electrifying fashion. Everton made a quick break that appeared dangerous for The Red Devils but a crunching tackle by Tyrell Malacia saw Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi get stretchered off the field.

A few minutes later and United, rather fortuitously, take the lead. Marcus Rahsford twists and turns from Seamus Coleman before drilling the ball hard into the six-yard box and converting as an own goal off Coner Coady.

Everton gave a spirited display and must have felt hard done by when their goal was ruled off for offside. Dominic Calvert-Lewin thought he had leveled for the visitors following great work and an assist by Demarai Gray.

Late in added time, United sealed their victory through a penalty by Marcus Rashford. Everton’s Godfrey appeared to have fouled Alejandro Garnacho in the box. The referee pointed to the spot and Rashford calmly slotted the ball to the keeper’s left. United win 3-1!
