During an interview on Inooro TV on Tuesday, January 10, Sakaja expressed regret that the situation had been exaggerated, causing unnecessary political tension.

“I ask for forgiveness from Kenyans because of how it has played out in public. There are people who have taken advantage. You find that affairs of Nairobi are being talked about by politicians from Bungoma to Nyeri, Muranga, and even Vihiga,” Sakaja said.

The governor stated that the issues would be resolved internally, and he chastised those who have exploited the perceived tensions for political gain.

“Respect the deputy president. If you have never heard me insult anyone, then don’t do it on my behalf,” Sakaja said.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna chastised Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Monday for recent comments about his alleged conflict with Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.

In a press release, Sifuna stated that governors should not be held accountable to Gachagua. He went on to say that as a Nairobi Senator, it is his responsibility to protect the county’s interests.

He also claimed that the deputy president exaggerates his political clout in Nairobi.

Sifuna urged Sakaja to go ahead with his plans because he will be held accountable by Nairobi residents rather than Gachagua residents.

The perceived differences between the governor and DP Gachagua have been over the city’s radical policies.

Gachagua and his allies have been vocal in their opposition to Sakaja’s proposed changes, claiming that they will harm Nairobi’s business community.

President William Ruto, on the other hand, has stated that all disagreements between the governor and the national government will be settled.

In a recent joint media interview, Ruto stated, “We have a new governor in Nairobi. There are issues. He is trying to do things, some he gets right, but some he needs more consultation on.”
