The Hilton hotel announced in April 2022 that it had reached plans to shut down its Central Business District (CBD) hotel giving its employees an early alert.
The Hotel in the Nairobi CBD closed its operations on 1st January 2023. The building is expected to get a new business occupant in few coming months.
During the early announcement, the management asserted that the closure was not directly linked to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The hotel, in which the government holds a 40.57 percent stake, is run by its parent company International Hotels of Kenya (IHK).
The CBD location of the hotel made it easier for the high-end clients who today prefer upmarket Hotels in less crowded and busy parts of the city such as Upper hill and Westlands.
For a strategic location, Hilton expects to open a new Luxury Hotel in Upper hill-Nairobi, in February this year.
“We are opening our operations in February 2023, but are not accepting reservations yet,” a statement on the hotel’s website indicated.

Further, Hilton also operates the Double Tree by Hilton in Hurlingham, and Hilton Garden Inn-Nairobi Airport, located on Mombasa Road just 7 kilometers from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
Additionally, Kwetu Nairobi, Curio Collection by Hilton, the 102-room hotel is located at the Peponi-Kitisuru Road junction, overlooking Karura Forest.

Hilton had previously disclosed that an unspecified number of staff from the CBD hotel would be redeployed to other hotels in its Nairobi portfolio.
For well reserved, Kwetu Nairobi emphasizes the proximity to Karura, where visitors can enjoy outdoor activities, as well as dining and entertainment options in Westlands. Amenities at the hotel include a SPA, a business center, and an outdoor pool.
