Nyandiko Ongadi, chairman of the Luo Council of Elders, has rallied Kenyans in support of President William Ruto and urged Raila to cancel his planned protest.
On Sunday, December 4, Nyandiko told journalists that demonstrations would disrupt the economic activity or result in injuries and deaths.
He claimed that Odinga’s supporters had grown tired of taking to the streets for many years and that protests had been ineffective.

“He is our son but we are tired of demonstrating on the streets. We have suffered huge losses and our children have died in demonstrations,” he said.
He urged the community to rally behind President William Ruto, thanking him for appointing regional leaders to his administration.

Raila announced on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, that he would lead his supporters in a protest against the indictment of four Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners.
President William Ruto had earlier given Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki instructions ahead of the planned nationwide protests.
The president directed the interior secretary to compile a schedule of planned protests across the country.
He also directed that adequate security be provided to the opposition leader and his team during the protests.

The president while speaking at an interdenominational service in Embu on Sunday, December 4, quickly added that the officers deployed will not only provide security for Raila and his team but will also protect Kenyans’ property during the planned rallies and demos.
