Sadio Mane injury: Senegal star ruled OUT of World Cup after scans on leg

Senegalese football star and Bayern’s forward Sadio Mane is to miss the World Cup due to a Tendon injury in yesterday’s match against Werder Bremen.

The Bayern Munich forward was forced off during yesterday’s match against Werder Bremen where they won 6-1.

Reporting on Wednesday morning, French outlet L’Equipe claim Mane has now been ruled out of the tournament, which would be a huge blow to a Senegal side he inspired to Africa Cup of Nations glory earlier this year.

The Senagalese start has a tendon injury which means he will not be playing for several weeks.

Mane was hit on the leg during the match and Bayerns assistant coach said the injury was “not too serious”.

Manager Julian Nagelsmann suggested scans would be needed to determine the extent of the injury.

“That’s an unpleasant spot, it radiates a bit into the muscles,” Nagelsmann said. “I think he has to go to the X-ray to see if there is something there because it is splintering easily. But I hope that nothing is wrong. I can’t say anything for sure yet.”

His national Coach has not yet been confirmed because he was featured in Senegal named its World cup squad and Sadio Mane was featured among the forwards.

Mane scored a shot-out penalty in the African cup of Nations Finals that saw Senegal qualify for the World cup.

He has won the best African Player award two times in a row, in 2019 and 2022.

Senegal is due to play their first match of the tournament against the Netherlands on Monday 21 November in two weeks with further matches against Qatar and Ecuador before the end of the month.
