Nairobi; Kenya’s President William Ruto and his South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa have lifted visa requirements for its citizens between the two countries.
Addressing the Media at State House in Nairobi on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, President Ruto showcased that the agreement is at the final stage and Kenyan nationals will have visa-free access for 90 days per year.
“Starting January 1 next year (2023), we will have a different regime thanks to your personal intervention in this matter and the wealth of experience that has been brought together on board by your officials, Kenyan citizens holding their ordinary passports will be allowed to enter the Republic of South Africa on a visa-free regime for 90 days per year,” The Head of State said.
Giving unified procedures, Ruto noted that he and Ramaphosa had reached an agreement on how to cooperate with nationals from the two countries in order to smoothen the travel flow.
“Kenya and the Republic of South Africa have purely agreed on a return policy when immigration laws are breached to make sure that unwanted methodologies are being eliminated at our borders,” Kenya’s Head of State made a remark.
Additionally, President Ruto announced that a resolution has been reached upon to monitor, identify, and resolve non-tariff barriers that affect trade between the two Nations at large.
On the other hand, Cyril Ramaphosa clarified that South Africa was committed to observing and maintaining strong bilateral relations with Kenya in several areas of mutual understanding.
“We are strategically committed to ensuring that the agreements signed now and in the past will be implemented at a full gear point. Citizens of Kenya and South Africa nationals have a multiplicity of relations which will be enhanced through the signed agreements,” South African President said in a statement.
Also, the South African President unified that he and William Ruto will explore the modern opportunities for businesses in the respective two countries at a notch higher.

Finally, President Ramaphosa and Ruto discussed various issues that affect their regions and the continent for example the war in the Democratic Republic of Congo-DRC and the climate change crisis.
