Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza Facing Impeachment Signal

A Meru Member of the County Assembly has presented a motion before the County Assembly seeking the impeachment order of Governor Kawira Mwangaza.

The Member of County Assembly of Abogeta West Dennis Kiogora, who also doubles as the Minority Chief Whip, proposed the motion to oust Mwangaza on grounds that she has breached the Leadership and Integrity act of Section ten (10) in the constitution.

Clarifying the process, Kiogora has accused Governor Kawira of gross misconduct and abuse of the office, saying that she has engaged in a number of disgraceful acts which he claims have created a toxic environment and invited ridicule to the county.

“The Governor has engaged in multiple disgraceful acts that severally and collectively amount to gross violation of the Constitution, gross violation of various national and county laws, abuse of office, and gross misconduct,” part of the petition reads.

Kiogora added that Mwangaza’s prolonged stay in office will sabotage service delivery within the county for the interest of the people of Meru.

He also proposed that the Governor cannot be trusted to work harmoniously with staff and elected leaders at the National and County levels of Government.

Sixty-eight (68) Members of the County Assembly have annexed the impeachment motion.

The issue lies on the backdrop of a resolved stalemate between Governor Kawira Mwangaza and the MCAs after a consultative meeting was held to address their outlined differences.
