Former England Captain and Manchester United Legend, David Beckham could be part of a consortium seeking to invest in the multi-billion club.

Speaking on his Vibe with Five podcast, former United teammate, Rio Ferdinand revealed,

“Becks will come with a consortium. I saw Becks last night (Friday) at the game, I went to the England game and we were sat next to each other.

“He smelt beautiful, looked beautiful. He looked a million dollars, as he normally does. He didn’t look 10 billon dollars’ worth (the amount it might take to buy United).

“But when you mention someone like Becks’ name, he’s obviously a part-owner of Inter Miami, but he doesn’t come [alone]. It’s not his money. It’s not him in terms of putting his hand in his pocket. He comes with a consortium. He comes with people who do have deep pockets who have the ability to go and execute on a deal like that. So that’s the way he’ll be approaching it, and rightly so. I just think it’s going to come down to a number. If you’ve got the number, and you can produce, that’s what it’s going to be about.”

The Glazers bought United back in 2005 and will be on some good business hoping to rake in close to £8bn ( Ksh 1,181,008,224,000.00) from the sale of Manchester United. The Glazers family acquired United for only £790m ( Ksh 116,647,285,680.00).

The United Legend is also part-owner of MLS club Inter-Miami, heavily linked to being in pursuit of Argentina international Lionel Messi. According to Goal, Messi’s contract expires in 2023 and the deal is expected to make Lionel Messi the most paid player in MLS history.

Back in his playing days, Beckham was amongst the highest earners making him a brand ambassador for various promotions and sponsorship deals.

The former England captain played for Manchester United, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, and LA Galaxy, in the US later in his career.

According to CelebrityNetWorth, David Beckham has a net worth of $450 million. This is a combined net worth, with his wife, Victoria Beckham.

In 1999, Becham and his wife bought and renovated a $3.3 million property which the British media dubbed ‘Beckingham Palace’. In 2007, the celebrity couple bought a Beverly Hills mansion at $18.7 million, which they sold for $33 million in 2018.

They also own a $4 million home in the south of France as well as a mansion in West London’s Holland Park. The Beckhams also have an $8 million converted barn in the rural village of Great Tew in the Cotswolds area.

Who Else Wants To Buy United?

Earlier last week, the Glazers family noted that they will ‘explore strategic alternatives’ when looking for an investment or a complete takeover of the club. The American owners have come under heavy criticism in recent years, leading to protests by United fans.

British Billionaire and lifelong Man United fan, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, with an estimated net worth of £ 10.9 billion is a fan favorite. Sir Ratcliffe once revealed his favorite moment as a United fan, when he was present for United’s 1999 comeback win against Bayern Munich, winning the UEFA Champions League.

Other top ownership bids for Manchester United include tech giants Apple CEO Tim Cook and Spanish fashion billionaire Amancio Ortega.
