At Least 8 Dead,13 Missing Following Italy’s Mudslides

At least 8 people have been reported dead and 13 more are missing after Mudslides Triggered by heavy Rains sweeping away homes on the island of Ischia.

The Mudslide dragged Debris and Trees down the Mountains toward the coast of the Island of Ischia,near Naples on early Saturday.

A woman, 25-year-old, and her family including a newborn baby are reportedly among the missing.

In a statement, the Mayor of the Island’s town Lacco Ameno said that dozens of Families were still cut off and that a number of Buildings Had Collapsed. Also, several people are still stuck inside a Hotel.

Local authorities has given out a strong warning and urging residents to stay at their homes to avoid obstructing Emergency services which are taking.

Matteo Salvini the Minister for Infrastructure confirmed the death of 8 people during the incident adding that from North to South this country needs to be strongly protected because it is the source of income generation through the tourism sector.

The occurrence of heavy rains has been hitting Campania, the region surrounding Naples and Ischia, and a Weather warning for Rainfall and Strong Winds is in place until Sunday.
