Moments after his Inauguration ceremony on Tuesday, September 13, President William Ruto commenced on official duties by appointing six judges.
Through the gazette notices, President Ruto appointed four Court of Appeal judges and two judges; Environment and Land Court judges at State House Nairobi.
The six new judges will take oath on Wednesday morning.
The two judges, Makori Evans Kiago and Cheruiyot Omange Judith Elizabeth will be heads of the Environment and Land courts respectively.
He appointed Court of Appeal Judges who included; Korir Weldon Kipyegon, Muchelule Aggrey Otsyula, Odunga George Vincent, and Prof. Joel Mwaura Ngugi.
Their appointment comes quite a while since their nomination by the Judicial Service Commission.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 166(1) of the Constitution of Kenya, I, William Samoei Ruto, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, appoint –Korir Weldon Kipyegon, Muchelule Aggrey Otsyula, Odunga George Vincent, Joel Mwaura Ngugi,” read part of the gazette notice signed by President Ruto appointing the appellate judges.
The president thereby exercised his first role as mandated by the Constitution gearing toward eradicating the economic crisis looming around.
As the new government has promised to deal with various challenges faced by the citizens from soaring prices of consumer products to fuel and energy.
