In the voting held in the County Assembly, Kennedy Ng’ondi emerged with the lead in the first round garnering 71 votes while his opponent Hassan Robow attained 52 votes as declared by Clerk Edward Gichana.

However, the votes won did not meet the two-thirds threshold required for one to be declared a winner in the Speaker position’s race hence a probable second round at it.

Ng’ondi winning makes it not his first time in the corridors of City Hall as he had earlier on served as Deputy Speaker in the inaugural house between 2013 and 2017.

Adding to his position he won the MCA for Kware Ward in Embakasi South Constituency, he also served on the assembly’s Public Health Committee.

The highly contested Speaker seat of Nairobi County Assembly had seen various candidates cradle to be at the helm of the County Assembly as most candidates got struck out of the contenders’ list for the position.

Amongst the 24 Candidates who had an interest in the seat, only nine made it to submission of forms to the office of the clerk as most candidates failed to attain all the requirements.

Those Struck out included outgoing Speaker Benson Mutura, Arthur Ngugi, Charles Muratha, Austine Amimo, Ahmed Dubon, Samwel Masaki, and Brian Mutie.
