Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is set to assume some of the executive roles that were given to outgoing Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i in former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s second term.
According to the terms of the Kenya Kwanza Agreement, the DP will be given important duties including as chairing cabinet committees and supervising the execution of cabinet decisions across multiple ministries and state agencies.
Further, Gachagua will foster mutual relationship between the national government and county governments as a way of sealing differences that rapture due to funds allocation.
“The deputy president will also coordinate the planning and supervise the implementation of development partners’ funded programmes and projects.
“The DP will coordinate constitutional commissions and independent offices in matters that require the intervention of the national government including but not limited to budgets and policy frameworks for their operation,” read the deal in part.

The agreement stated that the clearly defined responsibilities of the DP’s office will aid the Kenya Kwanza administration in implementing its policies and programs.
Speaking before his inauguration, Gachagua asserted that he and the president had developed a working chemistry plan that would enable his office and Ruto’s to cooperate in carrying out the hustler agenda.
“One thing about Ruto is that he does not have any inferiority complex. He will not be bothered that I am a good worker and performer. He will be happy when I compliment his work.
“I will be bringing energy to the presidency. I want to assure Kenyans that the issues you saw issue between Uhuru and Ruto will not arise again. He has given me clearly set roles and that will be done through an executive order,” he stated.
Gachagua said that his close bond with the president will avoid possible outcomes that might cause deflation, as experienced during Ruto’s predecessor regime.
