On Monday, August 15, the embassy noted that they Applaud IEBC and its Stakeholders for conducting peaceful and orderly voting and counting process.
They also noted that IEBC’s announcement of Dr. William Ruto as the president-elect was a significant milestone in the electoral process.
“We applaud the efforts of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, security forces, and all electoral institutions to organize peaceful and orderly voting and counting process”.
“Under the leadership of Chair Wafula Chebukati, IEBC declared William Ruto the winner of the presidential election. This is an important milestone in the electoral process,” the statement said.
In addition, the US asked all politicians to calm their supporters to order and encourage peace saying that Kenya is a key partner to the North American states and should ensure the stability of the region.
The embassy also asked the contenders to find solutions to their differences and allow working together to resolve the current tensions that led to the Azimio team disagreeing with the presidential results.
“Going forward, we urge all parties to work together to peacefully resolve any remaining concerns about this election through existing dispute resolution mechanisms”.
“We ask all political party leaders to continue to urge their supporters to remain peaceful and refrain from violence during the electoral process,” the statement read.
“The United States and Kenya share a strong partnership. We work together to improve healthcare, promote peace and security in the region, advance respect for human rights, and strengthen our economies. We look forward to continuing to enhance our partnership with the people and government of Kenya,” it continued.
The Embassy made the statement hours after president-elect Ruto made a statement and mentioned that accountability and democracy are the main foundations of his administration.
Ruto mentioned that his administration would adhere to the Constitution while exercising his duty as the president.
