While commissioning the Eastern bypass, which connects Mombasa Road to Thika Road in Nairobi, yesterday, on July 31, President Kenyatta emphasized that, contrary to what some of his political rivals stressed, he has no interest in harming his Deputy President, William Ruto.

“I am not interested in killing anyone. I only responded to your claims because you are a liar,” the Head of State said, in an apparent reference to Ruto.

“There is no need to shout everywhere that I want to kill you. You have been abusing me for the past three years and nothing has happened to you, yet I had the means to harm you,” said President Kenyatta.

Kenyatta said that he has no animosities toward anyone and that he is prepared to cede power to the winner of the August 9 Election.

The President’s remarks came amid a standoff between himself, Ruto, and a presidential contender for Azimio La Umoja, Raila Odinga.

According to the Kenya Kwanza presidential flagbearer, Uhuru had promised to deal with him soon, adding that he would not pay attention to Uhuru’s threats and that instead, he requested the president to act as a unifying factor in this election season.

“I want to ask the president to please don’t be a source of threats.” “Stop intimidating people. Your work is to make sure there is peace in the country. Stop telling us that we will know you are the president. Stop terrorizing us. We cannot be threatened, “said Ruto.

Ruto, who was angry, also requested that Uhuru express gratitude for his prior support, citing the fact that he had supported Kenyatta throughout his previous two terms as president.

The UDA presidential hopeful further asked the president to leave him alone and focus on pushing Raila’s bid.

“Be thankful we helped you when you needed us.” “When you needed somebody to stand by you, we stood by you to the last,” said Ruto.

“Stop attacking me, my friend. Raila is the one who fought to destabilize your government. You just focus on pushing your candidate, Raila.”

“Why are you talking about me? Please stop talking about me. Talk about your candidate. ” “If you don’t want to support me, leave me alone,” he added.

The deputy president went ahead and warned the president against threatening him, stating that Uhuru should face him head-on as long as the head of state does not involve his family, maintaining he was ready to face Raila on the ballot.

“Have you started threatening me? As long as you don’t kill my children, I shall face you, but please let’s respect each other, “Ruto lashed out.

Dp Ruto went on to warn President Kenyatta to stop mentioning his name everywhere he goes and instead focus on campaigning for Odinga, his preferred presidential candidate.

Other politicians who’ve also claimed their lives are in danger include Ruto’s running mate, Rigathi Gachagua, and his Gatundu South lawmaker, Moses Kuria.
