Betty Kyallo was among the select group of celebrities who Edgar Obare said had engaged in the illicit wash wash business, which involved money printing and fake gold scams.
On August 28, 2021, Obare released a damning exposé that exposed the notorious Kilimani con artists responsible for the multi-million shilling fake gold scams and the wash wash (fake currency) printing business.
The well-connected fraudsters were found to be mostly centered in the Kilimani region and to live opulent lives, flaunting them on social media.
It was reported that the con artists enjoyed the company of stunning ladies, enjoyed attending exclusive events, and had high-end cars.
Obare claimed that the wash wash gang collaborated with celebrities to launder their money that was earned illegally.
According to him, the wash wash fraudsters typically opened upscale salons, gas stations, nightclubs, liquor stores, etc. for celebrities and then utilize those businesses to conceal the source of their cash.
In order to deceive the authorities and financial institutions about the true source of those funds, the blogger claimed that the cartel typically feeds money through businesses established for celebrities they work with. This is known as money laundering 101.
Betty was among some of the famous people reportedly involved in the wash wash business who were named in Edgar Obare’s exposé.
On her reality show Kyallo Culture, Betty refuted allegations that she is a member of the wash wash gang.
She lamented that it makes her feel sad when people assume that she relies on “easy money” to support her booming enterprises and way of life.
“I work hard for my money and therefore, I never like it when people think I do wash-wash business,” Betty Kyallo said.
Betty founded at least four multimillion shilling enterprises from scratch, and she now owns and runs them.
She first opened Flair with Betty, a beauty salon. The three other enterprises she later added have all been profitable.
Aftershave, Magic Business Center, and Betty Kyallo Closet are some of Betty’s additional businesses.
