Deputy President, William Ruto, in his early morning press address at his Karen home, urged voters to come out as he prepares for his final rally in Nyayo Stadium, on Saturday, August 6.
Kenya Kwanza’s flagbearer promised to focus on solutions to fixing the dwindling economy, that has resulted in a high cost of living and unemployment if he gets to take over from President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“The economy is in dire state, the high cost of basic commodities such as food and fuel should never be this harsh. Small businesses have closed shop, others are just hanging in there because the cost of doing business is terrible. Unemployment is soaring, there are fewer jobs than before,” said DP Ruto.
He also vowed to talk about the plight of women, youth, and people living with disabilities (PWLDS) bearing in mind that the Kenya Kwanza Alliance has arranged as ordered charters to aid the body in handling arising problems facing the people emblemed in the body.
“In the education sector we have agreed to remove the hiccups and we have agreed on affirmative action for Kenyan women and people living with a disability. We have agreed on and signed county economic charters, we have developed an authentic homegrown Kenya country plan from these charters,” he said.
“On our first day in office, we have agreed, among other things, to tackle the punitive cost of living so that every one of us can afford o go about our lives and to reduce the cost of doing business so that industries can thrive and employment opportunities can be a reality.”
The Kenya Kwanza leader also tapped into the blooming of corruption cases in the country and stressed that curbing graft cases will be of chief importance to his administration.
Ruto perceives corruption to be washing off the confidence people have in the government when throwing away important finances meant for community development projects, forcing Kenyans to thrive under poor-quality services and infrastructure.
“We have agreed to tackle run-away corruption including state capture, budgeted corruption, and financial wastage,” said DP Ruto.
While wooing voters to utilize their voting rights, Ruto correspondingly advised Kenyans to vote wisely and elect leaders who will keep their vows of good service to all Kenyans.
“I invite all of you to be purposeful and deliberate as you vote. Do not take chances with that hallowed ballot paper; it is all you’ve got to choose between stagnation and progress. It is time to have the courage to say no to anything that threatens our humanity, civility, and decency,” he said.
“We must believe in a better tomorrow but we must make a better tomorrow. Let’s not surrender to sceptics. This is the essence of your vote; chose leaders who will make decisions to better your lives,” he said.
He as well dwelled on his readiness for elections whether the register method to be used will be Manual or Electronic.
