Azimio Leaders Denied Entry into Bomas

Section of Azimio leaders led by James Orengo locked out of Bomas

There has been a scuffle at Bomas of Kenya after a section of Azimio leaders were denied entry in Bomas, Nairobi, where the verification of tallying for the presidential results is ongoing by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

This is after some Azimio One Kenya Coalition leaders led by James Orengo and Anyang Nyong’o were locked out of the venue where the tallying of presidential results has been ongoing.

The Siaya governor-elect James Orengo was denied access with the colleagues like Edwin Sifuna Nairobi senator, and Makadara MP-elect George Aladwa some of whom were alleged to have accreditation.

Chairman of the Azimio Campaign Board, Ndiritu Muriithi cautioned against the act as not right since they had been allowed as agents in.

“What is the point of accrediting us? As an agent, how would you explain my being locked out? So, Chebukati and his team must come clean to Kenyans. We have explained to the law enforcement officers that what happens from here is up to them,” Muriithi questioned in surprise.

Drama unraveled as they asked for entrance into the heavily guarded amphitheater where the tallying is ongoing. The General Service Unit has been deployed in the National Tallying Centre, and no unauthorized persons are allowed in the vicinity.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) argued that their presence attracts their supporters who are not authorized to be in a tallying center.

The duo was later allowed into the premises. They were however not allowed to enter the arena where the verification process is ongoing.

“IEBC will only allow the Chief Agents of the presidential candidates, their deputies, and clerks assisting in the verification process to access the auditorium. We have also given instructions at the gate that no one should be allowed at the venue. That is the instructions we have given to the police,” IEBC Commissioner Abdi Guliye said.
