As he encouraged his supporters to remain calm, the African Union High Representative for Infrastructure Development emanated confidence that the Supreme court will invalidate the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) decision to pronounce William Ruto the president-elect.

“I did not threaten the courts. I informed the public on what are our prayers to the court are,” Raila stated.

While speaking in Mombasa on Wednesday, August 24, Raila maintained his belief of having won the 2022 Presidential election, advising the Supreme Court not to call for a re-run if they find out he won the August 9 polls.

Raila was addressing Mombasa residents while campaigning for ODM’s candidate in the Mombasa gubernatorial seat, Abdulswamad Shariff Nasir.

His attitude attracted uproar from his opponents, especially from a section of Kenya Kwanza leaders. Garissa Township MP-elect, Aden Duale, called out the former Prime Minister for allegedly declaring himself the president-elect.

Duale claims that Raila’s speech amounted to treason.

“Kenyans in their numbers came out on 9th of August and pronounced themselves through the ballot that their president is non-other than William Ruto and his deputy is Rigathi Gachagua,” Duale stated.

“The government printer through the official gazette notice on 16th August confirmed the same. These other stories we are being told are laughable. Anyone doing this is committing a serious offense against the constitution.”
