Wangari wins the Ladies Coast Open in 2022.

Chanelle Wangari, the Kenya Ladies Amateur Golf Champion, won the main 2022 Ladies Coast Open golf competition on Thursday at Nyali Golf and Country Club Mombasa.

Wangari, who played off handicap one, shot a three-over-par 74 in the first round of the 36-hole event before closing with an outstanding level par 71 for a total of 145 gross (Nyali Bowl).

Naomi Wafula of Vipingo, who also played handicap one, won the A division gross championship. She shot 75 gross in the first round and 73 in the final round for a total of 148.

She finished ahead of Uganda’s Peace Kabasweka on 150 points, with Tanzania’s Hawa Wanyeche coming in third on 152.

In the net segment, Nyali’s Alyssa Jamal won with 68 and 71, beating clubmate Rasmeet Kaur’s 69 and 71.

Esther Chumo of Eldoret finished third on 72 and 71 net, while Naomi Wakesho of Golf Park won the first round net on 69, one better than Victoria Bagaya on 70 net.

Margaret Njoki won the second round net on count-back after defeating Mercy Nyanchama. Alyssa Jamal and Rasmeet Kaur won the Leslander title in the A class for the lowest net score team with 279 net.

Following Wednesday’s B and C division championship, Harsmran Kaur won the B division with a score of 182, beating out Lucy Njoroge on 183. Hilda Mugure finished third with 185 points.

Susan Irungu won the net championship in the B division with a total of 136 net, defeating Janet Wasike by four strokes, while Petronilah Kalee finished third with 141. Joyce Cherotich won the C category, which was played on Stable-ford, with scores of 44 and 38 for a total of 82 points.

Ling Cheng finished second with 74 points, while Alice Dan finished third with 66 points. On 287 net, Janet Wasike and Zaituni Mohammed won the Leslander championship.

The Ladies Coast Open circuit began this year with an 18-hole event at Leisure Lodge on Monday before moving to Mombasa Golf Club on Tuesday.

On Friday, the ladies were in Malindi for the fourth leg before concluding the series with a Golfer of the Year match-play event at Baobab course Vipingo Ridge on Saturday.
