A fire broke out at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) headquarters on the morning of Monday, July 11.
A source from the Harry Thuku-based media house confirmed that the fire broke out at the institution’s canteen a few minutes before 6:00 a.m.

According to the media sources, flames consumed the whole building which is attached to the main block housing its broadcasting studios.
The fire was, however, contained by the police as well as the G4S after an initial delay by the Nairobi County government which reportedly did not have a fire engine on standby.

Sources within KBC confirmed that all the staff on duty were evacuated and that no one was injured in the early-morning incident.
“It started shortly before 6 a.m., G4S and police have contained the fire. Staff on duty evacuated. Everyone is safe,” stated the source.
It is still not clear what caused the fire which has since been contained.
The extent of the damage also remains unknown.
