The Africa Centres for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) has released a new report on COVID-19 which places Kenya among
the countries experiencing the sixth wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

In the report released on Thursday, Kenya and Mauritius
are the only two nations classified in the said category among the 54 African
Union (AU) member states following the recent surge in cases.

“Two member States (Kenya and Mauritius) experienced a
6th COVID-19 wave. Since the last briefing, one additional member State (Kenya)
is experiencing the 6th wave,” stated Africa CDC.

In yet another database, Kenya is also listed among the
States with the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the period between June
6-12.

Kenya is said to have recorded a 92 per cent increase
during the said duration, placing it fourth after South Africa, Morocco and
Ethiopia.

“The following 5 countries are reporting the highest
number of new cases: South Africa (10,385), Morocco (5,410), Ethiopia (3,951),
Kenya (1,591) and Zambia (1,076),” read the report.

Consequently, regarding the death rate within the period,
the continent recorded a substantive decrease of five per cent.

Kenya being among the five most populated countries,
recorded no change in the death rate for the duration.

This as Kenya’s Ministry of Health on Thursday announced
427 new COVID-19 infections, marking a 12.9 per cent increase from May when the
positivity rate was about 3.8 per cent.
