Pesapal is set to roll out digital payment services in Uganda after securing a Payment System Operator license from the Bank of Uganda allowing them to offer multi-currency transactions.

The Bank of Uganda has granted Pesapal – a digital payment platform a license to operate in the country.


This was revealed by Pesapal Uganda- Country Manager -Martin Barungi, the decision by the regulator will now see the firm drive cashless transactions and related benefits to the country’s consumers.

“At Pesapal, we give people and businesses better ways to pay and get paid. Now, with the Bank of Uganda’s regulatory greenlight, we will be able to hunker down in our continued effort to change the face of digital financial services in Uganda as a key stakeholder of its financial ecosystem,” he said.

The new license will allow the financial service provider to drive cashless transactions and related benefits, including financial inclusion and convenience, by simplifying the processing of payments. As well as streamline how enterprises can access their funds.

Barungi also  Pesapal have been driving digital payments on the continent for the last decade.


By leveraging technology to make financial services affordable, convenient and secure, Pesapal is empowering tens of thousands of merchants and millions of consumers in markets across Africa to thrive.

With the license, consumers will be able to make multi-currency transactions from any scheme such as Visa, Mastercard, and America Express in-store using the Pesapal POS machine, seamlessly.
