Former Nairobi Governor, Evans Kidero, was a disappointed man after having lost the Homabay Gubernatorial seat to Gladys Wanga.
Kidero has moved to court citing hindered transparency in the tallying process as the main reason for refusing to concede defeat.
Based on county government provisional results by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Gladys Wanga garnered 244,559 votes, while Kidero came in second with 154,182 votes.
Mark Raudi of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) came third with 1,244 votes.
Kidero on the other hand refused to accept defeat upon the announcement of his rival as the winner by IEBC.
In his allegations, the former Mumias Sugar Boss reveals that some of his agents were denied access to polling stations in Homa Bay County which he believes dented the count’s credibility.
“Some Presiding officers and Returning Officers denied our agents access in some voting halls and in the counting halls, as my lawyer has stated, this would be addressed in the appropriate forums starting from today,” Kidero said.
Kidero further alluded to a preconceived plan in the region that had leaders predetermined before the elections even happened.
“Some Presiding officers and Returning Officers denied our agents access in some voting halls and in the counting halls,” Kidero added.
Kidero, formerly of the Orange Democratic Movement party, put his name on the ballot as an independent candidate, after the failure of the party to support his political bid.
It is a presumption that became a reality after the party picked Gladys Wanga for the Governor’s race, making her the first female Governor of Homa Bay County.
Wanga, upon achieving the big win bestowed to her by the people assured them of service delivery to everyone regardless of whether they supported her or not, promising change.
Gladys Wanga came into the limelight after becoming the first female lawmaker to be elected as the chairperson of the Finance and Planning Committee in the National Assembly.
