It’s indeed a new dawn in the political world as the young politicians brave their way into the murky waters of Kenyan politics.
Kenya’s 2022 General Election attracted a number of young politicians who seem to have been entrusted with the leadership mantle for the next five years.
The former political big wigs have been written off by their locals in various regions as they go for younger visionary leaders.
Such leaders include Linet Chepkorir who is currently the youngest elected leader at age 24 years.
She is a graduate Bachelor of Business Administration graduate from Chuka University in Meru County just new in politics.
Having successfully amassed 242,775 votes to floor her competitor, Alice Migo, who got 42,171 votes. She has been elected on a UDA ticket.
Tagging along amongst the young aspirants is Abraham Osoi Orikai, aged 24 years, who has been elected a member of the County Assembly for Mapato North, Kajiado County on a Wiper ticket.
Orikai is an accountant by profession from KCA University and this is his first stab at politics.
Followed closely on the list is Cynthia Muge, who is 27 years old and one of the youngest politicians in Kenya after being elected the Nandi County Woman Representative on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket.
Muge is a physical planner by profession and holds a master’s degree in project planning management and is currently a PhD student.
She was elected to represent Kilibwon Ward in Nandi County in 2017 as an independent at the age of 24.
Lastly, Josses Lelmengit, the new MP-elect for Emgwen Constituency is just 28 years old and a civil engineer by profession.
Lelmengit managed to trounce his main challenger, Tecla Tum, after garnering 34,803 votes. Tum, who ran as an independent candidate got 13,194 votes.
Some of these candidates are first-timers in the General Election.
