Presidential hopeful David Maraga has promised to run a government built on integrity and accountability if he wins the 2027 General Election.

Speaking to Kenyans living in the United States on Sunday, Maraga said his administration would take firm action against corruption and those who misuse public funds.

He said he would not allow members of his government or those close to him to steal from the public.

“I will not steal from you, my family to steal from you or those I work with to steal from you,” Maraga said.

The former Chief Justice is currently on a three-week campaign tour of the United States, where he has been meeting his supporters in the diaspora.

Maraga invokes Singapore in governance pitch

The UGM Party presidential flagbearer said Kenya needed stronger action against corruption to unlock its economic potential.

He pointed to Singapore and its former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew as an example of how strong leadership and accountability could shape a country’s development.

“We are talking about Singapore in Kenya. You know what Lee Kuan Yew did to make Singapore admirable,” he said.

Maraga also promised to protect public resources and ensure money collected from Kenyans was used for its intended purpose.

“Kenyans have not given that money to you to put it in your pocket. I will guard that for you,” he said.

US-based group backs Maraga’s campaign

Maraga’s US tour has also included support from Vanguard Africa, a US-based organisation that has agreed to provide campaign-related services on a pro bono basis.

Documents filed under the United States Foreign Agents Registration Act show that Vanguard Africa entered into an agreement with Friends of Maraga on September 2, 2026.

The agreement covers advisory, international advocacy and public engagement support. It says the work is intended to raise Maraga’s profile and promote his message on ethical leadership, as well as support free and fair elections in Kenya.

The arrangement is set to run until November 30, after which the two organisations are expected to review the partnership at a strategy meeting in December.

Maraga is among the politicians positioning themselves ahead of Kenya’s 2027 presidential election, with corruption, public accountability and governance emerging as key issues in the campaign.
