Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Chairperson, Rahab Mwikali applauds women’s Representation in ongoing General Election, saying it sets a good model for next generation 

Mwikali, while casting her vote at Kithimani Polling center, Yatta Constituency, hours before the close of voting, she acknowledged women’s involvement in governance is already taking root and bearing some results.

She challenged more women to seek elective posts in future elections for this sets a great role model to the Kenyan girl.

Among the great women of Kenya is the 58-year-old long-running MP of Taita Taveta Naomi Shaban, who wowed Kenyans after conceding defeat to her closest opponent in the Taita Taveta MP race.

The veteran politician via a social media message said she understands the wants of the Taita Taveta people in terms of new leadership and commended Okano and his team.

“Good people, there is time for everything. Well done team Bwire,” Shaban told her supporters in a message shared on a WhatsApp forum.

 “Thank you for giving me a chance to serve you for 20 years. My young brother Okano, I congratulate you.” Naomi concluded.

In 2007, Naomi Shaban was re-elected with a KANU ticket and served another term under President Mwai Kibaki before defending the seat for the second time under a National Alliance Party (TNA) ticket in 2013.

During President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee administration, Shaban would serve two terms after being re-elected again in the 2017 General Election 

Shaban has also served in the cabinet, first between 2008 and 2010, when she was Minister of State for Special Programs.

President Mwai Kibaki switched her into the Gender and Children Affairs docket in August 2010.

In the ruling Jubilee party, Shaban deputizes the party leader, President Kenyatta, who is in charge of outreach programs.
