More than 884,000 TikTok videos were removed in Kenya. The action was taken in the first three months of 2026. A total of 884,591 videos were found to have broken TikTok’s Community Guidelines.
The figures were released in TikTok‘s first-quarter enforcement report. The scale of the removals shows how closely content is now being monitored.
Most Content Was Flagged Early
TikTok said 99.7 per cent of the removed videos were found before users reported them. Some 96.3 per cent were removed within 24 hours of posting. The company said automated systems were used to spot potential violations.
Human safety teams were also involved in reviewing content. TikTok has said its approach combines automated detection with human review.
Underage Accounts Removed
The crackdown also focused on younger users. Some 48,739 accounts in Kenya were removed. The accounts were suspected of belonging to children under the age of 13.
TikTok’s rules do not allow children under 13 to hold accounts. The removals were part of wider child safety measures on the platform. The move comes as social media companies face growing pressure to improve online safety for children.
LIVE Streams Faced Action
TikTok also reported action against LIVE content. Some 103,847 LIVE rooms were interrupted in Kenya. The streams were found to have breached the platform’s rules. Globally, action was taken against millions of LIVE sessions and creators.
Some creators were warned. Others were prevented from earning money through LIVE content. TikTok says warnings are meant to give creators a chance to understand and follow its rules.
AI Content Draws Attention
The role of artificial intelligence was also highlighted in the report. TikTok said 14,261 videos were removed worldwide. They were linked to rules on edited and AI-generated content deemed harmful or misleading.
Creators are required to label realistic AI-generated material. TikTok also uses automated tools to identify such content. The company has joined the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity.
The group is working on ways to identify content made or altered with artificial intelligence.
Millions Removed Worldwide
Worldwide, 184,012,576 videos were removed in the quarter. They represented about 0.5 per cent of all videos uploaded during the period. TikTok said 178 million were detected through automated systems.
Some 8.8 million videos were later restored after further review. The figures point to the growing role of automated moderation. But they also highlight the importance of human reviews and appeals.
As TikTok expands, the debate over content moderation is likely to continue. The platform must balance user safety with the need to protect legitimate expression and creativity.
