IEBC will launch its 2022 pre-election disputes report and case digest, aiming to strengthen electoral justice and boost confidence ahead of the 2027 pollsThe Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is set to unveil a report examining how pre-election disputes were handled during Kenya’s 2022 General Election, as the electoral body seeks to strengthen public confidence ahead of the next national vote.

The report, alongside a companion Case Digest, will be launched on Thursday under the theme “Path to the Polls: Electoral Integrity Through Justice and Dispute Resolution.” The publications are intended to document legal precedents, institutional experiences and lessons that could shape future electoral reforms.

According to the commission, the report brings together findings from disputes that arose before the 2022 General Election, offering insight into how they were resolved and the legal principles that guided those decisions. The accompanying case digest compiles significant court and tribunal rulings that influenced the electoral process.

IEBC says the publications are designed to serve as reference material for election officials, political parties, candidates, lawyers and other stakeholders involved in Kenya’s electoral system. The commission believes consistent application of legal decisions can help improve transparency and strengthen confidence in election management.

In a notice posted on its official X account ahead of the launch, the commission announced: “1 day to go! To the Launch of Pre-Election Disputes Resolution Report for 2022 General Election & Case Digest for 2022 General Election.”

The release comes as the reconstituted commission prepares for upcoming by-elections and begins laying the groundwork for the 2027 General Election. IEBC has also said it is pursuing institutional reforms and system improvements aimed at enhancing service delivery and rebuilding public trust following previous electoral cycles.

Election observers have long argued that timely and impartial resolution of disputes is essential to credible elections. By documenting past decisions and lessons, the commission hopes to provide clearer guidance for future contests while reducing uncertainty in the management of electoral disputes.

The launch forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Kenya’s electoral justice framework and support ongoing discussions on reforms ahead of the next general election.
