Jubilee Plots Kiambu Comeback with Ward Offices Push

Jubilee Party has set its sights on a political revival, beginning in the heart of Kiambu County, long seen as central to its identity.

Speaking in Gatundu South on Friday, the party’s deputy leader, Fred Matiang’i, announced plans to establish offices in every ward across the county. The move, he said, is meant to rebuild the party from the ground up after a period of internal strain and shifting loyalties.

“We have come here today to open our Jubilee office in this ward,” Matiang’i told a gathering of local leaders and supporters. “We have started going through every ward. We want Kiambu to be the starting point.”

The strategy is straightforward: create a visible presence at the grassroots. Each office, he said, will serve as a meeting point for residents and party officials, offering a space for dialogue and coordination.

“We hope to have every ward in Kiambu have our Jubilee office so that we have somewhere to meet with citizens and other leaders,” he said.

Kiambu carries symbolic weight for the party. It is the political home of former president Uhuru Kenyatta, under whose leadership Jubilee rose to power. Matiang’i leaned heavily on that history, framing the initiative as both a return and a reset.

“As you know, Kiambu is the home of our party leader, His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta,” he said. “Jubilee was born here and we have come home.”

He cast the effort in almost personal terms, describing it as a continuation of a journey that began with Mr Kenyatta’s early political steps. “We have started this journey the way he started,” Mr Matiang’i said. “And we will take it forward in the same spirit.”

The announcement comes as Jubilee seeks to steady itself after internal disputes and a realignment of Kenya’s political landscape following the last general election. Analysts say rebuilding local structures could help the party reconnect with voters, though the path back to national prominence remains uncertain.

Matiang’i struck a conciliatory tone, urging supporters to remain calm and avoid confrontation. “Jubilee is a peaceful party and we don’t have a problem with anyone,” he said.

The Kiambu rollout is expected to be the first phase of a broader national plan. Last month, Matiang’i signalled the party’s intention to establish offices in all 47 counties, a move widely seen as laying the groundwork for the 2027 elections.
