Nairobi, April 4, 2026 — The Kenya Ports Authority has confirmed that its Managing Director, William K. Ruto, was involved in a road accident on the evening of April 3 while travelling with his family, in an incident that claimed the life of his daughter.

In an official statement released Saturday, the authority said the crash occurred in Taita Taveta County, with the CEO and other family members sustaining injuries and currently receiving medical attention. The agency confirmed that the rest of the family is in stable condition and under close medical supervision.

“Regrettably, his daughter did not survive the accident,” the authority said, adding that it extends condolences to the family during what it described as a period of immense grief.

The authority further indicated that it is cooperating with relevant government agencies as investigations begin into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Details of the cause of the accident remain unclear, with authorities expected to examine factors including road conditions and vehicle movement at the time of the incident.

Emergency response teams from both national and county governments were involved in the rescue efforts, with local leadership and security agencies responding to the scene following the crash.

The Kenya Ports Authority has appealed for privacy for the family as they mourn and recover, while also thanking stakeholders and the public for their support in the aftermath of the tragedy.
