Mary Deya, the widow of controversial Kenyan preacher Gilbert Deya, has been found dead at her home in Bondo, Siaya County, in a shocking development that comes about nine months after her husband’s death.
Initial reports indicate that Mary Deya was discovered lifeless inside her house, with the cause of death yet to be established.
The death was publicly revealed by the couple’s daughter, Rebecca Deya, who shared an emotional message on social media expressing shock and grief.
She said she discovered the news while trying to call her mother to wish her a Happy Mother’s Day, only to learn that she had already passed away.
Mary Deya’s death comes less than a year after the passing of her husband, the preacher known for the controversial “miracle babies” claims.
Gilbert Deya died in June 2025 following a multi-vehicle road accident on the Kisumu–Bondo road.
The Deya family had long been in the public spotlight due to the preacher’s ministry, which claimed infertile women could conceive through prayer.
The claims later sparked major investigations and court cases related to alleged child trafficking and staged births, controversies that followed the couple for yearsArchbishop
The archbishop was however acquitted of all child trafficking and theft charges on July 17, 2023 as a Nairobi court ruled that the prosecution failed to provide sufficient evidence to link Deya to a “miracle babies” syndicate.
