Kenya has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Israel following high-level talks between Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Israeli Ambassador to Kenya Gideon Behar.
The meeting, held on Tuesday, focused on expanding collaboration in key sectors including cyber security, agriculture, trade, technology exchange, and broader security cooperation.
Murkomen emphasized the longstanding diplomatic and economic relationship between Kenya and Israel, noting that the partnership continues to play a strategic role in national development and security.
“Kenya and Israel enjoy longstanding diplomatic and economic ties, spanning agriculture, trade, technology exchange, and security cooperation,” Murkomen said.
Focus on Cyber Security Collaboration
A significant portion of the discussions centered on cyber security, a rapidly growing concern globally amid increasing digital threats and geopolitical tensions.
Kenya is seeking to enhance its cyber resilience infrastructure, leveraging Israel’s globally recognized expertise in cyber defense systems and digital security innovation.
Strengthened cooperation in this area is expected to support Kenya’s national security framework, protect critical infrastructure, and improve response mechanisms against cyber threats.
The talks come at a time when governments worldwide are prioritizing digital security amid rising cases of cybercrime, cyber espionage, and attacks on public institutions.
Kenya Backs Multilateral Peace Efforts in Middle East Conflict
Beyond bilateral matters, the leaders also discussed the escalating conflict in the Middle East, which has now entered its fourth day, with reports indicating over 500 deaths in Iran alone.
Murkomen reaffirmed Kenya’s support for multilateral institutions in resolving international conflicts and promoting peace.
“I assured the Ambassador that Kenya supports the framework of multilateral institutions in the resolution of the conflict and efforts towards de-escalation,” he stated.
Kenya’s position aligns with its long-standing foreign policy approach that advocates for diplomacy, dialogue, and adherence to international law in conflict resolution.
Kenya and Israel have maintained close diplomatic ties for decades, particularly in areas such as agricultural technology, irrigation systems, security cooperation, and innovation partnerships.
