Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has publicly responded to claims by Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi regarding his past use of bhang, drugs, and alcohol, setting the record straight on his personal transformation.
Speaking firmly on the matter on JKL, the Embakasi East Member of Parliament revealed that he stopped consuming bhang, drugs, and alcohol on January 17, 2020, a decision he says has now marked six years of sobriety.
“I used to consume bhang, drugs and alcohol, but I stopped their consumption. 17th January 2020, it has been 6 years since I touched bhang, drugs, alcohol, 6 years, and I just drink water; it is in the public domain,” Babu Owino stated.
The MP emphasized that his decision to quit substance use is well documented and part of his public journey, dismissing any attempts to use his past against him politically.
Babu Tells Mbadi to Focus on Treasury Matters
Owino did not hold back in redirecting the conversation toward governance and economic priorities. He urged John Mbadi to focus on pressing national matters rather than personal attacks.
“John Mbadi should focus on building the nation; he should focus on working at the Treasury. Focusing on Babu taking bhang while he is focusing on selling Safaricom, there are pending bills he should be focusing on.”
The remarks come amid heightened political exchanges especally with wrangles in Babu’s and Mbadi’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
Babu Owino is allied to the faction against collaboration with President William Ruto’s goverment while Mbadi is allied to the faction that is pro broad-based government.
The exchange refelects the deepening rift in ODM between the two factions.
