Kenya’s security agencies have reportedly foiled a major terror attack allegedly orchestrated by the Somalia-based militant group Al-Shabaab.
According to an official statement from the Counter Terrorism Unit, months of surveillance and covert operations targeting a terror network operating within the Dadaab refugee complex culminated in the recovery of a cache of weapons and explosives destined for Nairobi.
The suspects had reportedly planned to carry out the attack during the holy month of Ramadhan, a period that has previously been targeted by extremist groups seeking maximum impact.
Weapons and Explosives Recovered
Security operatives claim to have intercepted and seized a significant stockpile of arms and ammunition, including, 600 bullets, pistols, grenades explosives and drugs.
Authorities believe the weapons were intended for coordinated attacks within Nairobi, potentially targeting crowded public areas.
Intelligence reports further indicate that the suspects were exploring plans to kidnap foreigners and hijack vehicles to intensify fear and disruption.

Why Nairobi Remains a Target
As Kenya’s capital and economic hub, Nairobi remains a high-value target for terror groups seeking to create widespread panic, economic disruption, and international attention.
Past incidents have shown that extremist groups often attempt to exploit religious seasons, public gatherings, and international presence to amplify their message.
By intercepting this latest plot, security agencies say the burst prevented what could have been a devastating attack during one of the most significant months in the calendar.
Authorities have reiterated that public safety remains a shared responsibility. Citizens are encouraged to remain alert and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
